System solutions for water systems – and cruise ships

ControlPartner is one of Uniwater’s five Norwegian companies and specialists in automation solutions for water and wastewater facilities. With more than 40 software engineers and some hardware specialists, the company is one of the group’s most technology-intensive units within the field of Industry 4.0.

Clean Water for the World’s Largest Cruise Ships

ControlPartner’s primary market is the municipal water and wastewater sector, where more than 30 Norwegian municipalities have already implemented its operational monitoring systems. However, one of the company’s most notable areas is advanced treatment systems for the cruise industry. ControlPartner has delivered control systems to three of the world’s largest cruise ships, each with capacity for up to 10,000 people on board.

“A cruise ship of that size is comparable to a mid-sized Norwegian municipality—but within a very limited space and with significantly higher pressure on wastewater systems. From a technical standpoint, treatment requirements are equivalent to land-based plants designed for around 50,000 people,” says Robert Wasler.

Robert Wasler, one of the company’s three founders, has been instrumental in building ControlPartner since the start in 2015. The company operates from offices in Porsgrunn, Bergen, and Oslo, and became part of Uniwater last year.

“Our ambition has been to advance Industry 4.0 through smarter, more autonomous control systems based on open and modern platforms. The result is solutions that quickly gained traction and are now used across municipal water and wastewater, maritime treatment processes, and industrial applications, says Robert Wasler.”

Collaboration with Uniwater sister company ASB Systems is rapidly evolving. The companies complement each other well, one with strong software capabilities, the other with deep hardware expertise. Together, they develop scalable technologies that enable robust, energy-efficient, and future-proof solutions for critical infrastructure.

Large-Scale International Projects

ControlPartner is currently involved in several major international projects in England, Denmark, and Taiwan. The company has also delivered multiple installations across Asia, contributing to the development of large-scale, land-based treatment plants with capacity to handle wastewater from up to nine million people.

– These plants are larger than all equivalent facilities in Norway combined, yet they are built on the same scalable technology used for smaller municipalities in the Nordics,” says Robert Wasler.

By delivering advanced automation and systems for optimizing energy and chemical consumption, ControlPartner helps make treatment processes more resource-efficient in rapidly growing metropolitan areas—an important contribution to global sustainability.

Recruiting at Pace

The company is currently in a strong growth phase, hiring approximately one engineer every six weeks. ControlPartner is looking for professionals who can combine hardware and software expertise—ideally with a background in electrical work or automation.

“We’re looking for people with relevant education and hands-on experience. With our new office, we have plenty of room to grow—and a clear ambition: to continue building the next generation of sustainable technology for water, the environment, and society,” Robert Wasler concludes.
